This offering hit my bull's eye today, as spring arrived this week in vibrant green and rainbow spectrum to eclipse the caked grey and red mud that has shone under bare limbs and thousands of dead trees since late September. I've counted my blessings each minute of emerging color and light since that Helene woman stormed through our lives and landscape last fall. As I read your words, I count my time with you as ongoing blessing. Thank you for all of the lessons, ideas, wit, and wisdom you deposited in my bank of memories. I am so thankful to be in your company again. LOVE

Ah! You are a breath of fresh air, always. Turning 65 next month (yay, Medicare!), and I celebrate the idea of always having something new to look forward to.

I’ll be 81 next month, keep very active, physically and mentally, and feel like 40. Your view of using the words “old at 80” is old school thinking…and especially harms women. Women, of all ages, should ban together to stop buying into this old age prejudice!! I know you meant that you won’t act old at 80, but I feel that even buying into the concept of “old” (which I hear all too often) is detrimental to our self worth/self esteem. We need to find a new way to express ourselves as we acquire more years and experiences.

Please read my two blogs (“The Last Frontier”, written 6/22/22 and “More On The Last Frontier”, written 6/28/24) on a major part of this self imposed (to add insult to the injury already imposed upon us by some older -usually not younger- men) prejudicial topic, in The Times of Israel…..

I didn’t miss it…I just think words are very important and we need to find others to describe ourselves…

I like old, too. I think skirting around this word does nothing to help social prejudice and stereotypes thinking. I like to think that I am living my oldness in a way that shows the world that one can be old and still be vital, engaged, energetic, fit, and even sexy! (I am 83)

Oh Vicki, you are a joy to behold! I find your words in my inbox on the other side of the globe (sort of - geography isn't my strongest point) and I smile, never mind what kind of day I'm in the middle of. Bless you and your wild spirit!
