Pressing publish, just to double dare myself. I’ve ignored most bells and whistles as I wrote Coming of Aging here on Substack, but this morning discovered the video button. When the pandemic landed, a millennial writer was living in my guest room. We’d talk after dinner and she said I had so much to say that I should do Facebook Live. I said No No No all the way to my computer and pressed live to “feel the fear and do it anyway.” I called it Facebook Live at 5 o’5 and for two weeks posted 5 minutes of thoughts about what just happened to all of us. Later I opened a Zoom room for local friends to just wave hi, all in our bathrobes, stunned. Next thing you know, I started What Could Possibly Go Right podcast which went for 3 years with nearly 100 cultural scout guests talking about what opened up or went wonky from 2020 on.
Maybe this video is the beginning of a few interviews with my favorite smart, wise friends, since we are entering another new phase in America - or possibly a repeat of a prior era. From coast to coast, from fires in LA to Trump&Co at the helm in DC, we will all be asking, “What could possibly go right, now?” Call it “coming of aging” for the USA.
As I say in posts and emails when I’ve named a wicked problem (think a quadratic equation with too many unknowns), “Laissez les bon temps rouler.”
